My Story

As a recently retired Police Captain with over 37 years in law enforcement, I’ve dedicated my career to serving my community and developing leaders who leave lasting legacies.

My journey began with the US Army as a Military Police Officer before joining the Stockton Police Department, where I served for nearly 25 years, rising to Lieutenant. I completed my career with the Elk Grove Police Department as a Captain, overseeing critical operations and mentoring the next generation of leaders.

I accepted Jesus as a boy growing up in a house with abuse, domestic violence, and mental illness.  As an adult I drifted far away from God.

During my darkest moments in life, struggling through my second divorce and estranged relationships, teasing the idea of suicide, the Holy Spirit showed me the path back to a true and fulfilling relationship with God.

Throughout my career, I’ve witnessed firsthand how small, consistent actions create powerful ripple effects that transform lives, departments, and communities. This observation became the foundation for my forthcoming book, tentatively titled “Impact Where You Are: 9 Principles for Leaving a Legacy that Lasts,” which distills decades of leadership experience into practical principles for making a meaningful difference wherever God has placed you.

My approach to leadership is deeply rooted in biblical principles. I believe true influence comes not from position or authority alone, but from demonstrating genuine care, living with purpose, and taking ownership of both successes and failures. As a facilitator for the California POST Sherman Block Supervisor Leadership Institute and an instructor at San Joaquin Delta College’s Police Academy since 2015, I’ve had the privilege of sharing these principles with hundreds of law enforcement professionals.

I hold a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Liberty University and am a graduate of both the FBI National Academy (Class 271) and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police (Class 76).

Today, I continue my mission to equip officers and leaders with the tools they need to serve with integrity, compassion, and purpose. Whether addressing small teams or large conferences, my goal remains the same: to inspire others to recognize that their greatest impact often comes through small, consistent acts of courage, care, and character.

When I’m not speaking or teaching, I enjoy spending time with my wife Cat and our blended family in Northern California, where we remain active in our church and community.
